བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་ཀྱི་ཕན་ཡོན།
Beneficial Qualities of The
Enlightening Mind

བདེ་གཤེགས་ཆོས་ཀྱི་སྐུ་མངའ་སྲས་བཅས་དང་།།
ཕྱག་འོས་ཀུན་ལའང་གུས་པས་ཕྱག་འཚལ་ཏེ།།
བདེ་གཤེགས་སྲས་ཀྱི་སྡོམ་ལ་འཇུག་པ་ནི།།
ལུང་བཞིན་མདོར་བསྡུས་ནས་ནི་བརྗོད་པར་བྱ།།
To The Transcender of Bliss Who Embodies The Truth,
With his Heart Children and all those homage-worthy, I respectfully bow.
And to indeed engage in The Vow of [those] Noble Children of his,
Just as his words, in true conciseness, I shall recount.
བདེ་གཤེགས་ bliss perfected [one], Buddhas | ཆོས་ཀྱི་སྐུ་ dharmakaya | མངའ་ have | སྲས་བཅས་ [together] with the noble children/son, Bodhisattvas | དང་ and །།
ཕྱག་འོས་ worthy of homage/veneration | ཀུན་ལའང་ also to all | གུས་པར་ respectfully | ཕྱག་འཚལ་ pay homage, prostrate | ཏེ and then །།
བདེ་གཤེགས་སྲས་ Bodhisattvas | ཀྱི་ of | སྡོམ་ summing-up, overview | ལ་ to, in, into | འཇུག་པ་ engaging | ནི (emphasizing term) really/surely/no doubt/as for, etc. , །།
ལུང་ scripture, quotes (what is said by Buddhas and masters) | བཞིན་ like, as | མདོར་བསྡུས་ནས་ essentially, briefly, concisely | ནི་ (emphasizing term) really/surely/no doubt/as for, etc. | བརྗོད་པར་བྱ will be said, །།
སྔོན་ཆད་མ་བྱུང་པ་ཡང་འདིར་བརྗོད་མེད།།
སྡེབ་སྦྱོར་མཁས་པའང་བདག་ལ་ཡོད་མ་ཡིན།།
དེ་ཕྱིར་གཞན་དོན་བསམ་པའང་བདག་ལ་མེད།།
རང་གི་ཡིད་ལ་བསྒོམ་ཕྱིར་ངས་འདི་བརྩམས།།
Here, there is not a thing said that has not been said,
There is also not in me the skill of elegant phrases.
Thus, the thought to serve those [looking for such] I do not have.
For the familiarisation in my own mind, this I have engaged.
སྔོན་ཆད་ before | མ་བྱུང་པ་ that which was not received/happened | ཡང་ also | འདིར་here | བརྗོད་ to say/explain | མེད there is no, [i] don’t have, །།
སྡེབ་སྦྱོར་ way of poetic composition | མཁས་པ wise/skillful | འང་ also | བདག་ལ་ in me | ཡོད་ [one to] have | མ་ཡིན [I] am not, །།
དེ་ཕྱིར་ that’s why | གཞན་དོན་ [it will] benefit other | བསམ་པ thought | འང་ also | བདག་ལ་མེད I don’t have །།
རང་གི་ཡིད་ my own mind | ལ་ to/in | བསྒོམ་ cultivate/familiarize/practice, །།
ཕྱིར་ in order to, because to | ངས་ by me, I as an agent | འདི་ this | བརྩམས composed, undertaken, །།
དགེ་བ་བསྒོམ་ཕྱིར་བདག་གི་དད་པའི་ཤུགས།།
འདི་དག་གིས་ཀྱང་རེ་ཞིག་འཕེལ་འགྱུར་ལ།།
བདག་དང་སྐལ་བ་མཉམ་པ་གཞན་གྱིས་ཀྱང་།།
ཅི་སྟེ་འདི་དག་མཐོང་ན་དོན་ཡོད་འགྱུར།།
For the cultivation of virtues, the strength of my faith
Through this too, is hoped to be flourishing.
Those who to me, are equally fortunate.
When see this, there will anyway be meaning.
དགེ་བ་ virtue | བསྒོམ་ to be meditated/cultivated | ཕྱིར་ for, because, since | བདག་གི་ my, of me | དད་པ faith | འི་ of | ཤུགས power, strength, force, །།
འདི་དག་ these | གིས་ by | ཀྱང་ also | རེ་ཞིག་ cooperatively, respectively, side by side | འཕེལ་ increase, grow more | འགྱུར་ will become, become | ལ and, for that reason, །།
བདག་ me, myself | དང་ and, with | སྐལ་བ་ fortune, opportunity | མཉམ་པ་ equal, equivalent, match | གཞན་ other[s] | གྱིས་ by | ཀྱང་ also, །།
ཅི་སྟེ་ however, anyway, randomly | འདི་དག་ these | མཐོང་ see | ན་ if, when | དོན་ཡོད་ meaningful, beneficial | འགྱུར will become, །།
དལ་འབྱོར་འདི་ནི་རྙེད་པར་ཤིན་ཏུ་དཀའ།།
སྐྱེས་བུའི་དོན་སྒྲུབ་ཐོབ་པར་གྱུར་པ་ལ།།
གལ་ཏེ་འདི་ལ་ཕན་པ་མ་བསྒྲུབས་ན།།
ཕྱིས་འདི་ཡང་དག་འབྱོར་བ་ག་ལ་འགྱུར།།
This freedom and richness, indeed, is naturally hard to find.
For one who has got that which realises the goal of The Capable,
Suppose if in it, he did not accomplished [any] benefits,
Later, how to possibly have [again] this genuinity?
དལ་འབྱོར་ freedom and richness, precious human body | འདི་ this, the | ནི་ as for, certainly, (emphasizing term) | རྙེད་པ have found | ར་ to | ཤིན་ཏུ་ extremely, naturally | དཀའ [is] difficult, །།
སྐྱེས་བུ person, a capable one | འི་ of | དོན་ goal, benefits | སྒྲུབ་ accomplishing, accomplisher | ཐོབ་པ have obtained | ར་ as | གྱུར་པ་ those who have become | ལ so, །།
གལ་ཏེ་ suppose | འདི་ལ་ to/in this | ཕན་པ་ benefit | མ་བསྒྲུབས་ not accomplished/done | ན if, །།
ཕྱིས་ later on, later | འདི་ this | ཡང་དག་ genuine [one] | འབྱོར་བ་ to have, having | ག་ལ་ how [possible] | འགྱུར will become, become, །།
ཇི་ལྟར་མཚན་མོ་མུན་ནག་སྤྲིན་རུམ་ན།།
གློག་འགྱུ་སྐད་ཅིག་རབ་སྣང་སྟོན་པ་ལྟར།།
དེ་བཞིན་སངས་རྒྱས་མཐུ་ཡིས་བརྒྱ་ལམ་ན།།
འཇིག་རྟེན་བསོད་ནམས་བློ་གྲོས་ཐང་འགའ་འབྱུང་།།
Just as how a single moment of lightning reveals perfectly the appearance
Even deep amid the dark, clouded night sky,
Similarly, through the power of Buddha, once in awhile,
The Worldly arises the virtuous intelligent mind.
ཇི་ལྟར་ like how | མཚན་མོ་ night | མུན་ནག་ darkness | སྤྲིན་རུམ་ clouded | ན [there] when, །།
གློག་འགྱུ་ lightning | སྐད་ཅིག་ [at a] moment | རབ་སྣང་ quite luminous | སྟོན་པ་ showing | ལྟར just like, as like, །།
དེ་བཞིན་ that way, in the same way | སངས་རྒྱས་ Buddha | མཐུ་ power | ཡིས་ by, because of | བརྒྱ་ལམ་ན relatively, at least in some way, within limits, །།
འཇིག་རྟེན་ [in] the world, beings | བསོད་ནམས་ meritorious, merit | བློ་གྲོས་ mind, intelligence, wisdom | ཐང་འགའ་ occasional | འབྱུང་comes, happens, appears, །།
དེ་ལྟས་དགེ་བ་ཉམ་ཆུང་ཉིད་ལ་རྟག།
སྡིག་པ་སྟོབས་ཆེན་ཤིན་ཏུ་མི་བཟད་ལ།།
དེ་ནི་རྫོགས་པའི་བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་མིན་པ།།
དགེ་གཞན་གང་གིས་ཟིལ་གྱིས་གནོན་པར་འགྱུར།།
In that way, virtues exist in such fragility,
The powerful misdeeds are naturally unbearable.
If not the perfected Enlightening Mind,
With what other virtues, will [such sins] be conquered?
དེ་ལྟས་ in that way | དགེ་བ་ virtue | ཉམ་ཆུང་ poor state, poorly | ཉིད་ very, (stressing term) | ལ་ in | རྟག exist, there, །
སྡིག་པ་ evils, non virtue | སྟོབས་ strength | ཆེན་ great | ཤིན་ཏུ་ extremely, naturally | མི་བཟད་ inexhaustible, unbearable | ལ for, so, །།
དེ་ that, it | ནི་ (emphasizing term) | རྫོགས་པ complete, perfect | འི་ of, related to | བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་ bodhicitta, enlightening mind | མིན་པ what/that is not, །།
དགེ་ virtue | གཞན་ other | གང་ what/which | གིས་ by, by means of | ཟིལ་གྱིས་གནོན་ overwhelm, over power, པར་འགྱུར will become, །།
བསྐལ་པ་དུ་མར་རབ་དགོངས་མཛད་པ་ཡི།།
ཐུབ་དབང་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་འདི་ཉིད་ཕན་པར་གཟིགས།།
འདིས་ནི་ཚད་མེད་སྐྱེ་བོའི་ཚོགས་རྣམས་ཀྱིས།།
བདེ་མཆོག་བདེ་བླག་ཉིད་དུ་ཐོབ་པར་བྱེད།།
For millennials, vastly beneficial such mind has been deemed,
By The Wise who have done the brilliant reflection.
Such mind indeed is helping limitless groups of beings
Attain the Supreme Bliss in a very simple fashion.
བསྐལ་པ་ eon | དུ་མ many | ར་ in, for | རབ་ excellent | དགོངས་ pure thought/contemplate | མཛད་ pure doing | པ་ one who, those who | ཡི related to, །།
ཐུབ་དབང་ cable one | རྣམས་ (plural mark) | ཀྱིས་ by | འདི་ this | ཉིད་ very (stressing term) | ཕན་ benefit[ing] | པ something that is, something | ར་ as | གཟིགས pure see/saw/seen, །།
འདི this | ས་ by, with, through | ནི་ (emphasizing term) | ཚད་ limit, measure | མེད་ less, not there, without | སྐྱེ་བོ being | འི་ of | ཚོགས་ groups | རྣམས་ (plural mark) | ཀྱིས by, །།
བདེ་ comfort, happy, bliss | མཆོག་ supreme, best | བདེ་བླག་ easy way | ཉིད་ very | དུ་ in | ཐོབ་ obtained, attained, had | པ one to have | ར་ as | བྱེད doing, cause/causing, །།
སྲིད་པའི་སྡུག་བསྔལ་བརྒྱ་ཕྲག་གཞོམ་འདོད་ཅིང་།།
སེམས་ཅན་མི་བདེ་བསལ་བར་འདོད་པ་དང་།།
བདེ་མང་བརྒྱ་ཕྲག་སྤྱོད་པར་འདོད་པས་ཀྱང་།།
བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་ཉིད་རྟག་ཏུ་གཏང་མི་བྱ།།
For those longing to defeat hundreds torments of this chancy existence
While aspiring to clear out sentient beings’ burdens,
And also those wishing to relish the boundless bliss,
Not in any way, is this mind to be forsaken!
སྲིད་པ existence, (samsara, world) | འི་ of | སྡུག་བསྔལ་ suffering | བརྒྱ་ ཕྲག་ hundreds, a lot | གཞོམ་ to be defeated | འདོད་ wanting | ཅིང་ while, །།
སེམས་ཅན་ sentient beings | མི་བདེ་ unhappy, uncomforts | བསལ་ cleared out | བ have | ར་ to | འདོད་ པ་ wanting | དང་ and, །།
བདེ་ bliss, happiness, comfort | མང་ many, various | བརྒྱ་ཕྲག་ hundreds of, a lot | སྤྱོད་པ behaving, enjoying | ར་ to be | འདོད་ wanting | པ someone | ས་ by | ཀྱང་ even, also, །།
བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་ Bodhicitta, Enlightening mind | ཉིད་ the very, the | རྟག་ཏུ་ for always | གཏང་མི་བྱ should not quit །།
བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་བསྐྱེད་གྱུར་ན་སྐད་ཅིག་གིས།།
འཁོར་བའི་བརྩོན་རར་བསྡམས་པའི་ཉམ་ཐག་རྣམས།།
བདེ་གཤེགས་རྣམས་ཀྱི་སྲས་ཞེས་བརྗོད་བྱ་ཞིང་།།
འཇིག་རྟེན་ལྷ་མིར་བཅས་པས་ཕྱག་བྱར་འགྱུར།།
In the instance the Enlightening Mind arises,
The poor ones, chained in the prison of the wheel of life,
Will be deemed as “The Heart Children of The Bliss Transcender”,
While revered in all the worlds, by Gods and humans alike.
བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་ Bodhicitta, Enlightening mind | བསྐྱེད་ generated | གྱུར་ [one] became | ན་ if, when | སྐད་ཅིག་གིས in a moment, instantly, །།
འཁོར་བ samsara | འི་ of | བརྩོན་ར jail, prison | ར་ in | བསྡམས་ tightened, controlled | པ one/those who are | འི་ of | ཉམ་ཐག་ poor one, miserable one | རྣམས (plural mark), །།
བདེ་གཤེགས་ bliss gone one, Buddha | རྣམས་ (plural mark) | ཀྱི་ of | སྲས་ respected child, prince | ཞེས་ so/such | བརྗོད་ said | བྱ་ will be | ཞིང་ while, །།
འཇིག་རྟེན་ world | ལྷ་ gods | མི human, other | ར་ as, with | བཅས་ along, prepared | པ one/those who are | ས་ by | ཕྱག་བྱ object/place of prostrate/paying homage | ར་ as | འགྱུར will become, becomes, །།
གསེར་འགྱུར་རྩི་ཡི་རྣམ་པ་མཆོག་ལྟ་བུ།།
མི་གཙང་ལུས་འདི་བླངས་ནས་རྒྱལ་བའི་སྐུ།།
རིན་ཆེན་རིན་ཐང་མེད་པར་བསྒྱུར་བས་ན།།
བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་ཞེས་བྱ་བ་རབ་བརྟན་ཟུངས།།
Like the supreme kind of elixir, the substance which transforms gold,
This impure body is taken and then The Victor’s pure form [is born].
The precious jewel will change into something priceless, that is.
Thus, hold the so-called ‘Enlightening Mind’ in great stability.
གསེར་འགྱུར་རྩི་ alchemy (the art of transforming materials into gold) | ཡི་ of | རྣམ་པ་མཆོག་ supreme look/form (gold) | ལྟ་བུ as, like, just as, །།
མི་གཙང་ impure | ལུས་ body | འདི་ this | བླངས་ taken | ནས་ by, from having | རྒྱལ་བ victorious one, Buddha | འི་ of | སྐུ pure body/form, །།
རིན་ཆེན་ precious, of great value | རིན་ཐང་ value, price | མེད་ less, not there, has no | པ something, that which is | ར་ as, into | བསྒྱུར་ transformed, made change | བས་ན in that way, therefore, thus, །།
བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་ Bodhicitta, Enlightening mind | ཞེས་བྱ་བ་ so called | རབ་ best, excellent | བརྟན་ stable, firm | ཟུངས have! Take! །།
འགྲོ་བའི་དེད་དཔོན་གཅིག་པུ་ཚད་མེད་བློས།།
ལེགས་པར་ཡོངས་སུ་བརྟགས་ན་རིན་ཆེ་བས།།
འགྲོ་བའི་གནས་དང་བྲལ་བར་འདོད་པ་རྣམས།།
རིན་ཆེན་བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་ལེགས་བརྟན་པོར་ཟུངས།།
Having examined wisely and thoroughly through infinite wisdom,
The Only Guide to wandering beings [sees this mind even] more precious.
From the wandering state, those who wish to be freed,
Uphold this jewel-like Enlightening Mind well and firmly.
འགྲོ་བ beings, goer | འི་ of | དེད་དཔོན་གཅིག་པུ་ the only leader/captain, (Buddha) | ཚད་མེད་ immeasurable | བློ intelligence | ས by, །།
ལེགས་པར་ excellently, at its best | ཡོངས་སུ་ completely | བརྟགས་ examined | ན་ when | རིན་ཆེ་བ something more valuable | ས since, because, therefore, །།
འགྲོ་བ beings, goers | འི་ of | གནས་ place, situation | དང་བྲལ་ free/away from | བ one, to be | ར་ as | འདོད་ wanting | པ་ one/those who, [some]one | རྣམས (plural mark), །།
རིན་ཆེན་ precious | བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་ Bodhicitta, Enlightening mind | ལེགས་ excellent | བརྟན་པོ firm, stable | ར་ as, with | ཟུངས have! Take! །།
དགེ་བ་གཞན་ཀུན་ཆུ་ཤིང་བཞིན་དུ་ནི།།
འབྲས་བུ་བསྐྱེད་ནས་ཟད་པར་འགྱུར་བ་ཉིད།།
བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་ཀྱི་ལྗོན་ཤིང་རྟག་པར་ཡང་།།
འབྲས་བུ་འབྱིན་པས་མི་ཟད་འཕེལ་བར་འགྱུར།།
All other virtues are just like a plaintree,
Certainly becoming exhausted after fruits-bearing,
But for always, the wish-granting tree of the Enlightening Mind,
Not only undrained by giving fruits but will also be prospering.
དགེ་བ་ virtue | གཞན་ other | ཀུན་ all | ཆུ་ཤིང་ plantain tree, banana tree | བཞིན་ like, just it is | དུ་ as | ནི (emphasizing term) actually, really, of course, །།
འབྲས་བུ་ fruition, fruit, result | བསྐྱེད་ produced, will produce | ནས་ and, and then, after that | ཟད་ exhausted | པ to be | ར་ as | འགྱུར་ become, will become | བ་ to be, something that is | ཉིད very, །།
བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་ Bodhicitta | ཀྱི་ of | ལྗོན་ཤིང་ tree | རྟག་པར་ for always | ཡང་ of course, །།
འབྲས་བུ་ fruition, fruit, result | འབྱིན་ coming out, giving | པ something that is | ས་ since, because, so, therefore | མི་ཟད་ will not be exhausted | འཕེལ་ increase | བ something that is | ར་ as | འགྱུར become, will become, །།
སྡིག་པ་ཤིན་ཏུ་མི་བཟད་བྱས་ན་ཡང་།།
དཔའ་ལ་བརྟེན་ནས་འཇིགས་པ་ཆེན་པོ་ལྟར།།
གང་ལ་བརྟེན་ནས་ཡུད་ཀྱིས་སྒྲོལ་འགྱུར་བ།།
དེ་ལ་བག་ཅན་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་ཅིས་མི་བསྟེན།།
Even if atrocities, too great to bear, have been committed,
As how relying on a true hero [lifts] immense worries,
The Sensible why not go for that which,
From having leaned on, will liberate instantly?!
སྡིག་པ་ sin, evil deed | ཤིན་ཏུ་ extremely | མི་བཟད་ unbearable | བྱས་ done, did | ན་ཡང་ even if, although, །།
དཔའ་ hero | ལ་བརྟེན་ནས་ by relying on, from having relied on | འཇིགས་པ་ fear | ཆེན་པོ་ big, great | ལྟར like, alike, །།
གང་ which | ལ་བརྟེན་ནས་ by relying on, from having relied on | ཡུད་ཀྱིས་ instantly, in/by a moment | སྒྲོལ་ liberating | འགྱུར་བ that [which] becomes/will become, །།
དེ་ལ་ towards/on that, so | བག་ཅན་ conscious one | རྣམས་ (plural mark) | ཀྱིས་ by | ཅིས་ because of what | མི་བསྟེན not stay close to, rely upon, keep close, practice, །།
དེ་ནི་དུས་མཐའི་མེས་བཞིན་སྡིག་ཆེན་རྣམས།།
སྐད་ཅིག་གཅིག་གིས་ངེས་པར་སྲེག་པར་བྱེད།།
དེ་ཡི་ཕན་ཡོན་དཔག་ཏུ་མེད་པ་དག།
བྱམས་མགོན་བློ་དང་ལྡན་པས་ནོར་བཟང་བཤད།།
Such indeed is like the fire at the end of the worlds,
Causes all sins to burn in a single moment
To Sudhana, the unfathomable benefits of such mind,
Was told by Lord Maitreya, The One With Intelligence.
དེ་ that, it | ནི་ as for, for sure | དུས་ time | མཐའ་ ending, end | འི་ of | མེ fire | ས་ by | བཞིན་ just as | སྡིག་ཆེན་ sinful ones, maras | རྣམས (plural mark), །།
སྐད་ཅིག་གཅིག་གིས་ by single moment, in an instant | ངེས་པར་ certainly | སྲེག་པར་བྱེད burning, །།
དེ་ཡི་ of that/it, its | ཕན་ཡོན་ beneficial qualities, benefits and qualities | དཔག་ཏུ་མེད་པ་ the immeasurable | དག (plural mark for two), །
བྱམས་མགོན་ Maitreya | བློ་དང་ལྡན་པ the wise one | ས་ by | ནོར་བཟང་ [disciple] Sudhana | བཤད said [to], །།
བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་དེ་མདོར་བསྡུས་ན།།
རྣམ་པ་གཉིས་སུ་ཤེས་བྱ་སྟེ།།
བྱང་ཆུབ་སྨོན་པའི་སེམས་དང་ནི།།
བྱང་ཆུབ་འཇུག་པ་ཉིད་ཡིན་ནོ།།
In essence, The Enlightening Mind,
Is to be known in two of kinds:
A mind aspiring for perfection and indeed,
[Into such perfection], an engaging mind!
བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་ Bodhicitta | དེ་ it | མདོར་བསྡུས་ [is made] brief | ན if, །།
རྣམ་པ་ aspect | གཉིས་ two | སུ་ in | ཤེས་བྱ་ should be known | སྟེ they are, །།
བྱང་ཆུབ་སྨོན་པའི་སེམས་ mind that aspire for the perfection, Bodhicitta of aspiration | དང་ and | ནི indeed, of course, །།
བྱང་ཆུབ་འཇུག་པ་ [mind] that which engages for the perfection, engaging bodhicitta | ཉིད་ the very, the | ཡིན་ is/are | ནོ finishing/concluding term, །།
འགྲོ་བར་འདོད་དང་འགྲོ་བ་ཡི།།
བྱེ་བྲག་ཇི་ལྟར་ཤེས་པ་ལྟར།།
དེ་བཞིན་མཁས་པས་འདི་གཉིས་ཀྱི།།
བྱེ་བྲག་རིམ་བཞིན་ཤེས་པར་བྱ།།
How wishing to go and actually going,
Are different is something to be known.
The one who is wise should, likewise
Understand respectively the difference of these two minds.
འགྲོ་བར་འདོད་ want to go | དང་ and | འགྲོ་བ་ going | ཡི of, in related to, །།
བྱེ་བྲག་ particular, specific, difference | ཇི་ལྟར་ like how | ཤེས་པ་ it is known | ལྟར as, །།
དེ་བཞིན་ likewise, same way | མཁས་པ wise one | ས་ by | འདི་གཉིས་ these two | ཀྱི of, །།
བྱེ་བྲག་ difference | རིམ་བཞིན་ respectively | ཤེས་པར་བྱ will be known, །།
བྱང་ཆུབ་སྨོན་པའི་སེམས་ལས་ནི།།
འཁོར་ཚེ་འབྲས་བུ་ཆེ་འབྱུང་ཡང་།།
ཇི་ལྟར་འཇུག་པའི་སེམས་བཞིན་དུ།།
བསོད་ནམས་རྒྱུན་ཆགས་འབྱུང་བ་མིན།།
Indeed, from the mind which aspires for perfection
Fruition greater [than all of] this cyclic time is generated,
Yet such will not arise constant stream of merit
In the same way as the mind which engages.
བྱང་ཆུབ་སྨོན་པའི་སེམས་ Bodhicitta of aspiration | ལས་ from | ནི for sure, of course, །།
འཁོར་ཚེ་ at the time of samsara | འབྲས་བུ་ fruition, result | ཆེ་ greater | འབྱུང་ have, achieve | ཡང་ even, །།
ཇི་ལྟར་ like how | འཇུག་པའི་སེམས་ engaging Bodhicitta | བཞིན་དུ just as, །།
བསོད་ནམས་ merits | རྒྱུན་ཆགས་ continuous | འབྱུང་ have, having, happening | བ་མིན it is not, །།
གང་ནས་བཟུང་སྟེ་སེམས་ཅན་ཁམས།།
མཐའ་ཡས་རབ་ཏུ་དགྲོལ་བའི་ཕྱིར།།
མི་ལྡོག་པ་ཡི་སེམས་ཀྱིས་སུ།།
སེམས་དེ་ཡང་དག་བླང་གྱུར་པ།།
From then on, in order to fully liberate
The limitless realms of sentient beings,
With the mind of irreversibility,
The one who has set such mind genuinely
གང་ནས་བཟུང་སྟེ་ from the point when | སེམས་ཅན་ sentient being[s] | ཁམས realm[s], །།
མཐའ་ཡས་ endless, boundless | རབ་ཏུ་ excellently, perfectly | དགྲོལ་བའི་ཕྱིར in order to liberate, །།
མི་ལྡོག་པ་ཡི་སེམས་ irreversible mind | ཀྱིས་ by, with | སུ who, །།
སེམས་དེ་ that/the mind | ཡང་དག་ genuine, utterly pure | བླངས་གྱུར་པ one who have taken, །།
དེ་ནས་བཟུང་སྟེ་གཉིད་ལོག་གམ།།
བག་མེད་གྱུར་ཀྱང་བསོད་ནམས་ཤུགས།།
རྒྱུན་མི་ཆད་པ་དུ་མ་ཞིག།
ནམ་མཁའ་མཉམ་པ་རབ་ཏུ་འབྱུང་།།
Will, even amid the sleeping state,
Or when carelessness was at bay,
Arise the the power of merits excellently
As abundant as time and space, uninterruptedly
དེ་ནས་བཟུང་སྟེ་ from then onwards | གཉིད་ལོག་ sleeping | གམ or, །།
བག་མེད་ careless | གྱུར་ became | ཀྱང་ even | བསོད་ནམས་ merit[s] | ཤུགས power, །།
རྒྱུན་མི་ཆད་པ་ without interruption, continuously | དུ་མ་ many | ཞིག a, །
ནམ་མཁའ་ sky | མཉམ་པ་ equal to | རབ་ཏུ་ fully | འབྱུང་ come, happen, occur, །།
འདི་ནི་ཕན་ཡོན་དང་བཅས་པར།།
ལག་བཟང་གིས་ནི་ཞུས་པ་ལས།།
དམན་མོས་སེམས་ཅན་དོན་གྱི་ཕྱིར།།
དེ་བཞིན་གཤེགས་པ་ཉིད་ཀྱིས་གསུངས།།
From The Sutra requested by Bodhisattva Subahu,
The way such mind contains supreme qualities,
Was explained by himself, The Suchness Transcender
For the sake of those devoted to the [path that is] lesser.
འདི་ནི་ with respect to this, as for this | ཕན་ཡོན་ beneficial qualities | དང་བཅས་ along with, with | པར as to be, for it is, that it is, །།
ལག་བཟང་གིས་ནི་ཞུས་པ་ Sutra Requested by Subahu | ལས from, in, །།
དམན་ inferior, lesser vehicle | མོས་ interested | སེམས་ཅན་ sentient being[s] | དོན་གྱི་ཕྱིར in order to benefit, །།
དེ་བཞིན་གཤེགས་པ་ Tathagata, (one who have gone in the suchness) | ཉིད་ himself, (stressing term) | ཀྱིས་ by | གསུངས said, །།
སེམས་ཅན་རྣམས་ཀྱི་ཀླད་ནད་ཙམ།།
བསལ་ལོ་སྙམ་དུ་བསམས་ན་ཡང་།།
ཕན་འདོགས་བསམ་པ་དང་ལྡན་ཏེ།།
བསོད་ནམས་དཔག་མེད་ལྡན་འགྱུར་ན།།
If, towards a mere headache of sentient beings,
Just the thought of “I wish to help”,
For endowed with the aim of serving [others],
Would be blessed with merits that cannot be measured.
སེམས་ཅན་ sentient being | རྣམས་ (plural mark) | ཀྱི་ of | ཀླད་ནད་ headache | ཙམ just, mere, །།
བསལ་ལོ་ will clear out | སྙམ་དུ་ in mind | བསམས་ thought | ན་ཡང་ even if, even though, །།
ཕན་འདོགས་ benefiting | བསམ་པ་ motivation, intention | དང་ལྡན་ to have with, have, [it is] with | ཏེ since, because, so, །།
བསོད་ནམས་ merit[s] | དཔག་མེད་ immeasurable | ལྡན་ have, with | འགྱུར་ will become, becoming | ན if, when, །།
སེམས་ཅན་རེ་རེའི་མི་བདེ་བ།།
དཔག་ཏུ་མེད་པ་བསལ་འདོད་ཅིང་།།
རེ་རེའང་ཡོན་ཏན་དཔག་མེད་དུ།།
བསྒྲུབ་པར་འདོད་པ་སྨོས་ཅི་དགོས།།
Then, what is the need to speak [about the merits
Of] not only wishing to fully cleared out
Every being’s endless torments, but also
Aiming to achieve immense qualities [for] each?!
སེམས་ཅན་ sentient being | རེ་རེ each | འི་ of | མི་བདེ་བ uncomfort, unhappiness,།།
དཔག་ཏུ་མེད་པ་ immeasurable | བསལ་ clear out, make it not there | འདོད་ want[ing] | ཅིང་ while, and, །།
རེ་རེ each | འང་ also | ཡོན་ཏན་ excellent quality | དཔག་མེད་དུ immeasurably, །།
བསྒྲུབ་པར་འདོད་པ་ those who want to do/accomplish | སྨོས་ཅི་དགོས what is the need of mention, །།
ཕ་འམ་ཡང་ན་མ་ཡང་རུང་།།
སུ་ལ་འདི་འདྲའི་ཕན་སེམས་ཡོད།།
ལྷ་དང་དྲང་སྲོང་རྣམས་ཀྱང་རུང་།།
ཚངས་པ་ལ་ཡང་འདི་ཡོད་དམ།།
Fathers or possibly even mothers,
Who actually possess such a beneficial mind?
In Gods, Sages and Brahmans, even,
Is there this mind of Enlightenment?!
ཕ་ father | འམ་ or | ཡང་ན་ or, otherwise | མ་ mother | ཡང་ or | རུང་ okay, even, །།
སུ་ལ་ to/with whom | འདི་འདྲ like this/such | འི་ of | ཕན་སེམས་ benefiting mind | ཡོད have/has, there, །།
ལྷ་ gods | དང་ and | དྲང་སྲོང་ sage | རྣམས་ (plural mark) | ཀྱང་ also | རུང་ okay, even, །།
ཚངས་པ་ Brahma | ལ་ to/with | ཡང་ also | འདི་ this | ཡོད་དམ there/have? །།
སེམས་ཅན་དེ་དག་ཉིད་ལ་སྔོན།།
རང་གི་དོན་དུ་འདི་འདྲའི་སེམས།།
རྨི་ལམ་དུ་ཡང་མ་རྨིས་ན།།
གཞན་གྱི་དོན་དུ་ག་ལ་སྐྱེ།།
To those very sentient beings, since ever,
If such mind, even for one’s own sake.
In dreams, is not even dreamed of,
For the sake of others, when will such come?
སེམས་ཅན་དེ་དག་ those sentient beings | ཉིད་ལ་ for themselves | སྔོན in the past, །།
རང་གི་དོན་དུ་ for the sake of oneself | འདི་འདྲའི་སེམས mind of like this/such, །།
རྨི་ལམ་དུ་ཡང་ even in a dream | མ་རྨིས་ན if not dreamed, །།
གཞན་གྱི་དོན་དུ་ for the benefit of others | ག་ལ་སྐྱེ how come have/arise, །།
གཞན་དག་རང་གི་དོན་དུ་ཡང་།།
མི་འབྱུང་སེམས་ཅན་དོན་སེམས་གང་།།
སེམས་ཀྱི་རིན་ཆེན་ཁྱད་པར་འདི།།
སྔ་ན་མེད་པའི་རྨད་ཅིག་འཁྲུངས།།
The mind [aiming] to benefit beings,
Which they have not, even for their own good,
Such a jewel-like, outstanding mind,
Once experienced, is unlike any previous kind,
གཞན་དག་ others | རང་གི་དོན་དུ་ཡང་ even for the sake of oneself, །།
མི་འབྱུང་ not having/ can’t have | སེམས་ཅན་དོན་སེམས་ mind of benefiting others | གང་ what? , how come! །།
སེམས་ཀྱི་རིན་ཆེན་ precious jewel-like mind | ཁྱད་པར་ distinguished, different, difference | འདི this, །།
སྔ་ན་ in the past | མེད་པའི་རྨད་ཅིག་ a wonder that was not there | འཁྲུངས born/birth, །།
འགྲོ་བ་ཀུན་གྱི་དགའ་བའི་རྒྱུ།།
སེམས་ཅན་སྡུག་བསྔལ་རྩིར་གྱུར་པ།།
རིན་ཆེན་སེམས་ཀྱི་བསོད་ནམས་གང་།།
དེ་ལ་ཇི་ལྟར་གཞལ་གྱིས་ལང་།།
Is the source of joy to all wandering beings,
Is the substance that relieves all sufferings,
To the merits of this jewel-like mind,
What measurement can be applied?
འགྲོ་བ་ beings | ཀུན་ all | གྱི་ of | དགའ་བ joy | འི་ of | རྒྱུ cause, །།
སེམས་ཅན་ sentient being[s] | སྡུག་བསྔལ་ suffering[s] | རྩི matter [to clear out] | ར་ as | གྱུར་ became, to be | པ that [which], །།
རིན་ཆེན་ precious, jewel | སེམས་ [the] mind | ཀྱི་ of | བསོད་ནམས་ merits | གང་ which, །།
དེ་ that | ལ་ to | ཇི་ལྟར་ how | གཞལ་གྱིས་ལང་ measure, །།
ཕན་པར་བསམས་པ་ཙམ་གྱིས་ཀྱང་།།
སངས་རྒྱས་མཆོད་ལས་ཁྱད་འཕགས་ན།།
སེམས་ཅན་མ་ལུས་ཐམས་ཅད་ཀྱི།།
བདེ་དོན་བརྩོན་པ་སྨོས་ཅི་དགོས།།
If, just a simple thought of benefiting others
Outweighs all offerings to the Buddhas,
Then, without partiality, to all, striving to aid,
Does the merit of such need to be said?!
ཕན་པ benefit | ར་ to | བསམས་པ་ have intention, thought | ཙམ་ mere, just | གྱིས་ by | ཀྱང་ even, also, །།
སངས་རྒྱས་ Buddha[s] | མཆོད་ offer | ལས་ than (compared to) | ཁྱད་འཕགས་ superior | ན if, when, །།
སེམས་ཅན་ sentient being[s] | མ་ལུས་ without exception | ཐམས་ཅད་ entire, all, every | ཀྱི of, །།
བདེ་ make/making happy | དོན་ to, for the sake of | བརྩོན་པ་ putting effort, diligent | སྨོས་ཅི་དགོས what is the need of mention, །།
སྡུག་བསྔལ་འདོར་འདོད་སེམས་ཡོད་ཀྱང་།།
སྡུག་བསྔལ་ཉིད་ལ་མངོན་པར་རྒྱུག།
བདེ་བ་འདོད་ཀྱང་གཏི་མུག་པས།།
རང་གི་བདེ་བ་དགྲ་ལྟར་འཇོམས།།
Even having the mind wishing to cast away pains,
Directly towards such pains, all beings run.
Despite wanting comfort, as if towards enemies,
They crush their own happiness, out of stupidity.
སྡུག་བསྔལ་ suffering | འདོར་ get rid of, discard | འདོད་ want | སེམས་ mind, wish | ཡོད་ have, there is | ཀྱང་ even, །།
སྡུག་བསྔལ་ suffering | ཉིད་ the very | ལ་ towards | མངོན་པར་ apparently, trully, directly | རྒྱུག run[ning], །
བདེ་བ་ happiness | འདོད་ want | ཀྱང་ even | གཏི་མུག་ stupidity | པ one who have | ས by, །།
རང་ oneself | གི་ of | བདེ་བ་ happiness | དགྲ་ enemy | ལྟར་ like, just as | འཇོམས destroy, །།
གང་ཞིག་བདེ་བས་ཕོངས་པ་དང་།།
སྡུག་བསྔལ་མང་ལྡན་དེ་དག་ལ།།
བདེ་བ་ཀུན་གྱིས་ཚིམ་པ་དང་།།
སྡུག་བསྔལ་ཐམས་ཅད་གཅོད་བྱེད་ཅིང་།།
To whose delights have been exhausted,
Whom have been dealt with one too many torments,
[To such mind] which satisfies [them] with all the joys,
And defeat the entire sufferings,
གང་ཞིག་ someone who | བདེ་བ happiness | ས་ by, from | ཕོངས་པ་ destituted, beggared | དང་ and, །།
སྡུག་བསྔལ་ suffering | མང་ many | ལྡན་ have, with | དེ་དག་ those | ལ to, for, །།
བདེ་བ་ happiness | ཀུན་ all | གྱིས་ by, with | ཚིམ་པ་ satisfied | དང་ and, །།
སྡུག་བསྔལ་ suffering | ཐམས་ཅད་ all, entire | གཅོད་ cutting, ending | བྱེད་ doing | ཅིང་ while, །།
གཏི་མུག་ཀྱང་ནི་སེལ་བྱེད་པ།།
དེ་དང་དགེ་མཚུངས་ག་ལ་ཡོད།།
དེ་འདྲའི་བཤེས་ཀྱང་ག་ལ་ཡོད།།
བསོད་ནམས་དེ་འདྲའང་ག་ལ་ཡོད།།
While too, eliminates ignorance,
Where is a virtue which is equal?!
How can there be a similar friend?!
Where is it the merits that are comparable?
གཏི་མུག་ stupidity | ཀྱང་ also, even | ནི་ (emphasized) | སེལ་ clearing out | བྱེད་ doing | པ that which is, །།
དེ་ that | དང་ and, to | དགེ་ virtue | མཚུངས་ matching | ག་ལ་ where | ཡོད there is, །།
དེ་འདྲ like that/such | འི་ of | བཤེས་ friend | ཀྱང་ also | ག་ལ་ where | ཡོད there is, །།
བསོད་ནམས་ merit | དེ་འདྲ like that/such | འང་ also | ག་ལ་ where | ཡོད there is, །།
ཕན་བརྟགས་ལན་ལྡོན་གང་ཡིན་པ།།
དེ་ཡང་རེ་ཞིག་བསྔགས་འོས་ན།།
མ་བཅོལ་ལེགས་པར་བྱེད་པ་ཡི།།
བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་དཔའ་སྨོས་ཅི་དགོས།།
Someone who performs good deeds and takes credits,
Is still seen to be fairly worthy of praise.
To speak of a hero with the Enlightening Mind,
Who does wonders without being asked, is not required.
ཕན་བརྟགས་ done benefits/favor | ལན་ལྡོན་ repay | གང་ཡིན་པ one who is such, །།
དེ་ཡང་ that also | རེ་ཞིག་ some, somewhere, somewhat, a while | བསྔགས་ praised | འོས་ worthy | ན if, །།
མ་བཅོལ་ not asked | ལེགས་པར་ excellently | བྱེད་ doing | པ་ཡི of such, །།
བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་དཔའ་ Bodhisattva | སྨོས་ཅི་དགོས what is the need of mention, །།
འགྲོ་བ་ཉུང་ཟད་ནར་མའི་ཟས་སྦྱོར་བ།།
སྐད་ཅིག་ཟད་ཙམ་སྦྱིན་པར་བྱེད་པ་དང་།།
བརྙས་བཅས་ཉིན་ཕྱེད་བགྲངས་པར་བྱེད་པ་ཡང་།།
དགེ་བ་བྱེད་པ་ཡིན་ཞེས་སྐྱེས་བོས་བཀུར།།
Someone who serves meals to a few ordinary beings,
Despite giving merely temporary food,
Which [is half-day] filling and comes with abuse,
Is honored by others as “one who does good”, still.
འགྲོ་བ་ beings | ཉུང་ཟད་ small number | ནར་མའི་ཟས་ continuous food | སྦྱོར་བ associate, make engage, །།
སྐད་ཅིག་ཟད་ instantly exhausted | ཙམ་ just | སྦྱིན་པར་བྱེད་པ་ those who give | དང་ and, moreover, །།
བརྙས་བཅས་ with bully/contempt | ཉིན་ཕྱེད་ half day | བགྲངས་པར་བྱེད་པ་ that satisfy | ཡང་ also, even, །།
དགེ་བ་བྱེད་པ་ཡིན་ one is doing virtue | ཞེས་ saying | སྐྱེས་བོ people | ས་ by | བཀུར respected, །།
སེམས་ཅན་གྲངས་མཐའ་ཡས་ལ་དུས་རིང་དུ།།
བདེ་བར་གཤེགས་ཀྱི་བདེ་བ་བླ་ན་མེད།།
ཡིད་ལ་བསམ་པ་མཐའ་དག་རྫོགས་བྱེད་པ།།
རྟག་ཏུ་སྦྱིན་པ་ལྟ་ཞིག་སྨོས་ཅི་དགོས།།
Then, what’s the need to speak of the one who always gives
That which fulfills the entire wishes in the mind
The unsurpassable bliss of The Bliss Transcender,
For a long time, to beings limitless in number.
སེམས་ཅན་ sentient beings | གྲངས་མཐའ་ཡས་ innumerable | ལ་ to | དུས་རིང་དུ for long time , །།
བདེ་བར་གཤེགས་ Buddha | ཀྱི་ of | བདེ་བ་ bliss, happiness, comfort | བླ་ན་མེད unsurpassable one, །།
ཡིད་ལ་བསམ་པ་ what is wished in mind | མཐའ་དག་ entire | རྫོགས་བྱེད་པ that which perfects, །།
རྟག་ཏུ་ for always | སྦྱིན་པ་ giving | ལྟ་ཞིག་སྨོས་ཅི་དགོས what is the need to check and say, །།
གང་ཞིག་དེ་འདྲའི་རྒྱལ་སྲས་སྦྱིན་བདག་ལ།།
གལ་ཏེ་ངན་སེམས་སྐྱེད་པར་བྱེད་པ་དེ།།
ངན་སེམས་བསྐྱེད་པའི་གྲངས་བཞིན་བསྐལ་པར་ནི།།
དམྱལ་བར་གནས་པར་འགྱུར་ཞེས་ཐུབ་པས་གསུངས།།
That person who, towards such Bodhisattvas, the benefactors,
Supposedly derives a harmful mind,
Is said by The Capable One to be “abiding in hell”
As many eons as the number of bad thoughts held.
གང་ཞིག་ someone who | དེ་འདྲ like such | འི་ of | རྒྱལ་སྲས་ Bodhisattva | སྦྱིན་བདག་ benefactor | ལ to, towards, །།
གལ་ཏེ་ suppose | ངན་སེམས་ bad mind/intention, evil thought | སྐྱེད་པར་བྱེད་པ་ arising, generating | དེ that [person], །།
ངན་སེམས་ evil thought | བསྐྱེད་པ generated | འི་ of | གྲངས་ number | བཞིན་ as, like | བསྐལ་པ aeon | ར་ in | ནི (emphasized), །།
དམྱལ་བ hell | ར་ in | གནས་ abide | པར་འགྱུར་ will become | ཞེས་ such is, (quotation mark) | ཐུབ་པ The capable one, Buddha | ས་ by | གསུངས said, །།
འོན་ཏེ་གང་ཞིག་ཡིད་རབ་དང་བྱེད་ན།།
དེ་ཡི་འབྲས་བུ་དེ་བས་ལྷག་པར་འཕེལ།།
རྒྱལ་སྲས་རྣམས་ལ་དོ་གལ་ཆེན་པོས་ཀྱང་།།
སྡིག་པ་མི་འབྱུང་དགེ་བ་ངང་གིས་འཕེལ།།
Nonetheless, if one holds the highest regards,
Compared to the [best] fruitions, such will surpass.
As for those Bodhisattva, even [in] great difficulties,
Sins will not come [and] virtues will naturally glory.
འོན་ཏེ་ however | གང་ཞིག་ someone who | ཡིད་ mind | རབ་ excellent | དང་ pure | བྱེད་ doing, performing | ན if, །།
དེ་ that/it | ཡི་ of | འབྲས་བུ་ fruition | དེ་ that | བས་ compare to | ལྷག་པར་ specially more | འཕེལ increase, །།
རྒྱལ་སྲས་ Bodhisattva | རྣམས་ (plural mark) | ལ་ to | དོ་གལ་ difficulty, stress | ཆེན་པོ big, great | ས་ by | ཀྱང་ even, also, །།
སྡིག་པ་ sin, evil deeds | མི་འབྱུང་ will not get | དགེ་བ་ virtue | ངང་གིས་ by itself | འཕེལ increase, grow, །།
གང་ལ་སེམས་ཀྱི་དམ་པ་རིན་ཆེན་དེ།།
སྐྱེས་པ་དེ་ཡི་སྐུ་ལ་ཕྱག་འཚལ་ཞིང་།།
གང་ལ་གནོད་པ་བྱས་ཀྱང་བདེ་འབྲེལ་བ།།
བདེ་བའི་འབྱུང་གནས་དེ་ལ་སྐྱབས་སུ་མཆི།།
To those with the precious genuinity of the mind,
The pure form of such birth, I pay homage.
In them, who, even if cause harms, connect to enjoyment,
In such a source of happiness, I go for protection!
གང་ལ་ in whom | སེམས་ mind | ཀྱི་ of | དམ་པ་ sacred, genuineness | རིན་ཆེན་ precious, jewel | དེ that, the, །།
སྐྱེས་པ་ grown, rose, given rise to | དེ་ that [Bodhisattva], he/she/- ཡི་ of | སྐུ་ pure form/body | ལ་ to | ཕྱག་འཚལ་ prostate | ཞིང་ while, །།
གང་ལ་ to whom | གནོད་པ་ harming | བྱས་ done | ཀྱང་ even | བདེ་ happy | འབྲེལ་བ connecting, associating, bringing, །།
